Living Education Academy Programs

Devastated by the December 2004 tsunami, ravaged for decades by violent civil war, eastern Sri Lanka remains underdeveloped, unstable, and beyond the reach of many traditional aid programs. With little economic activity in the region and an underperforming education system, taking up arms is the path of many youth, who join or are forced to take part in militia forces.

LEAP Sri Lanka
strives to reduce the impact of the civil war through unconventional means: by inspiring children in affected areas to be passionate students and think independently.
By bringing science, drama, song, art and geography activities into remote classrooms, LEAP expands the horizons of students studying in under-funded conditions. Encouraging local youth to engage and learn with foreign facilitators, and providing access to resources including digital cameras, science equipment and musical instruments, Leap gives destitute rural school children access to resources normally available only to wealthy urban families.
